New on LOOP – Believe the Hype!

30 Nov

LOOP is by far my favorite label in NZ. With well over 55 releases they have morphed over the years from traditional label right through to innovative events company and boutique agency.  2013 is gonna be epic for these guys with some seriously dope releases on the horizon, but first here’s some seriously nice singles to power you down the  home straight of 2012.

Eavesdrop “Clear Water (ft. Keshia)”

After releasing a string of well-received singles, remixes and two EPs, Dave ‘Eavesdrop’ Wood is set to make a defiant and anticipated return with his debut LP, “Pins & Needles” – dropping March 2013 on LOOP.   The lush first single taken from the album, ‘Clear Water (ft Keshia)’ marks the first of a string of Eavesdrop singles.  Impressive vocal talent, Keshia, is new on the scene and shot and starred in the ‘Clear Water’ video, set in Japan.

Yes King “Overproof”

After the stonking debut release of ‘Rock This World’ on LOOP in 2008 Yes King makes a welcome return with their sophomore LP – ‘Re-Record Not Fade Away’.

“Overproof” the first single taken from the album features the sultry vocals by Mel Uye-Parker and comes with a bag of remixes by Sola Rosa, Eavesdrop and Joe Revell. Plus there is a second version (riddum) of the song “Raise Up” featuring Kenny Knotts. ‘Re-Record Not Fade Away’ LP out on LOOP & BBE early 2013

Kong Fooey, “Let it Go” ft. Maitreya & Madame Butterfly

When not training for the Boston Marathon, this mysterious act has been making waves fatter and rounder than the Mt Albert Wave Pool. Addicted to beats and good times, KONG FOOEY will have you getting down and dancing to a fine array of fresh produce sprinkled with fat classics. Pure hype generated from a percussion mastermind, a hype man and MC Maitreya.

Independent Christchurch radio station RDU98.5FM has its processor pumping with the re-launch of RDUnited this month, and the announcement of the RDUnited ReLaunch Party that comes free to loyal listeners and fans that sign up for membership before the 24th of November 2012.

Kilowatts are burning and antennas are tweaking with anticipation of the RDUnited Launch Party, split between two of Christchurch’s most prevalent venues on the 24th of November.  The Dux Live and CBD Bar will play host to a heavyweight lineup of prolific kiwi artists including; Electric Wire Hustle, Tali Live, Bang Bang Eche, Organikismness, Alphabethead, Mr Mime, Teknik, K+Lab, Estere, The Transistors, Bonetraders and more to be announced!

“Now that the wheels are back in motion, we want to give our listeners even more access, more music, more content, more rewards and more involvement with RDU and its culture” say’s Zak Cooper, RDUnited manager.  “To do this we are bringing RDUnited back.”

RDUnited, originally formed more than 10 years ago, is back and better than ever offering awesome benefits for members from ‘The Chosen Few’, a group of Christchurch’s finest establishments, all with an exclusive deal or discount available all year round for RDUnited members.  With a range of inviting incentives to reward it’s loyal followers, RDUnited returns at a time where community means more than anything for Christchurch.

“Innovation has been a key part of our operation,” claims station director James Meharry. “With the changing landscape in Christchurch and the difficulties we have all faced in the last 18 months, we have worked from laptops in the hills, programme directors bedrooms and even now, from the back of a horse float to ensure RDU98.5FM continues to break through the blur of commercial radio.  We will stop at nothing to continue broadcasting.

RDU is a local, independent radio station, driven by, and for the community of Christchurch.  For 36 years they have brought a varied and diverse broadcast with the ethos of choosing content over commercialism.

“We retain these values, while working as a “not for profit” model with every dollar we make being spent on improving the station, and ultimately what we give our listeners” continues Meharry.

To sign up, visit and follow the links on the homepage. Membership is only $30 and includes free entry into both venues on the night of the Relaunch Party plus an amazing range of discounts and twelve months worth of exclusive deals.

I know it’s been a while between posts! I’m sooooo slack, but the good news is that i’m back in NZ, getting settled, and ready to rock..   Welcome to the first one of many monthly mixes to come (well, hopefully!).  I’m super excited on the music I’ve been collecting lately, and have much to share! So stay tuned for updates.

This mix was done in my garage this afternoon on my newly cleaned/tuned turntables, brand new dicers and Control vinyl on Scratch Live while a Thunder storm took over the sky outside.

This is just a small sample of the hotness i’ve been digging lately. For me, its my melting pot of Future-Funk… I took a chunk of funk, added a dose of disco, blended a phat slice of house, then rolled it all together in one big musical reefer.. It’s right here for the smokin’.. Enjoy!  xx R.I.A
